Tree Removal Cost Information
What Does Tree Removal Cost?
Tree removal pricing varies from job to job because the factors involved vary, too. Two trees that look identical from the street can differ by hundreds of dollars depending on what’s around them, how accessible they are, and what the removal requires.
This page walks through what actually drives the cost of tree removal so you know what to expect before we visit your property. When you’re ready, the best way to get an accurate number is a free on-site estimate. There’s no substitute for seeing the job in person.

They gave us a reasonable quote and worked with us to get the scheduling at the time that was most convenient for us. We love that tree and they could identify with that and treat it with great importance. They recognized the value of the tree to our property and took great pains to make sure the tree was left in a healthier condition. Once the work was completed, they left no signs that they had even been here. I would highly recommend West Roots Tree Service. They cut down 3 trees, cleaned up all debris and the stump grinding was completed timely and exceptionally. I was on a tight timeline and they prioritized the job to keep me on track. I’ll have them back out for any future tree removal or trimming.
Why Tree Removal Pricing Varies
Unlike many home services, tree removal doesn’t have a standard rate per job. Every property is different. Different species of trees at the same height can require a completely different approach—and a very different price—depending on the conditions around it.
For example, if our truck and chipper can pull right up to the base of a tree, the job moves quickly. If that same tree is 50 yards from the road and every piece has to be carried out by hand, the labor cost goes up significantly. Neither situation is unusual; they just price differently.
What’s Included in Your Estimate
When West Roots provides an estimate, it covers the full job, not just the cutting. Here’s what you can count on:
- On-site assessment before any work begins
- Safe removal using the approach best suited to your property
- Chipping and hauling of branches and debris
- Log handling per your preference (leave on-site or remove)
- Thorough cleanup before we leave
Stump grinding is available as an add-on and can be included in your original estimate if you’d like the stump removed at the same time.
Why We Don’t Give Prices Over the Phone
We could throw out a number without seeing the tree—a lot of companies do. But that number would either be too high (to protect against surprises) or too low (and change when we actually show up). Neither of those is fair to you.
A 15–20 minute visit to your property gives us what we actually need to quote the job accurately. You’ll receive your estimate by email after the visit.
We schedule estimate visits within 1–2 days of your request when possible. Hazardous or emergency situations are prioritized.
Factors Affecting Tree Removal Cost
Tree Size and Height
Taller trees require more cuts, more rigging, and more time. Height is one of the most straightforward cost drivers. A large mature oak takes considerably more work than a small ornamental tree.
Proximity to Your Home or Structures
A tree close to your house, garage, fence, or driveway requires more careful removal. We use rigging and directional felling to control where sections land, and that level of precision adds time. The closer the tree is to something that can be damaged, the more the job costs.
Trunk Lean and Structural Condition
A tree leaning toward your house or one that’s already lost major limbs is more unpredictable. Working around a compromised structure takes more planning and more care. A straightforward lean toward open space is much simpler than a lean toward a roof.
Utility Lines
Trees growing into or near power lines require additional precautions and coordination. We regularly work around utility lines, but this affects how the job is scoped.
Equipment Access
Getting our truck and chipper close to the tree makes the job faster and less labor-intensive. Limited access means more manual work and a higher cost.
Log and Debris Handling
What happens to the wood after the tree comes down affects pricing, too. If you want logs cut and left on-site for firewood, that’s different from full haul-away. We’ll ask about your preference during the estimate.
Number of Trees
Scheduling multiple removals in a single visit is more efficient than separate trips, which often works in your favor on pricing. If you have several trees to address, mention all of them when you request an estimate.

FAQs
Can you give me a ballpark over the phone?
We can’t give you an accurate number without seeing the tree. The factors that affect price—equipment access, proximity to structures, lean, utility lines—aren’t things we can assess from a description alone. An on-site visit is the only way to quote the job fairly.
Do you charge for estimates?
No. Estimates are always free. We’ll visit your property, assess the job, and send you a written quote by email.
How long does the estimate process take?
The site visit itself is typically 15–20 minutes. We’ll send your estimate by email shortly after. You don’t need to be home during the visit as long as we have access to the tree.
Does having multiple trees affect the price?
Handling multiple trees in one visit is more efficient than separate trips, and that can work in your favor on pricing. If you have more than one tree to address, mention all of them when you request your estimate.
Is stump removal included?
Stump grinding is a separate service but can be added to your tree removal estimate. If you want the stump gone too, just let us know when we visit and we’ll include it.
How soon can the job get scheduled after I approve the estimate?
We get you on the calendar as soon as availability allows after you approve. Hazardous or emergency situations are prioritized.
